Beast Spiral Brooch, Irish brooch

Beast Spiral Brooch

In Celtic lore, the bird represented speed in travel, the beast  embodies both strength and the wisdom of nature.

This detail is from an illuminated manuscript that was painted in the 10th century by Irish monks at Lindesfarne, North Umbria.  In addition to the symbolic connection with nature, the classic Celtic spiraling expresses the flow of energy in life.

This classic Celtic design is a wonderful reminder that we can draw on the powers of nature through our Celtic heritage.
